A cool, clean & calm home

Usually for the holidays I crave a warm, textural, layered, chunkier space but I was going through some of my old magazines and was reminded that somewhere in my split personality I really think this cool, elegant, uncluttered home is beautiful too.  Come Feb. or March I will really crave a very light & clean home.  I'm not trying to get ahead of myself too much here because I can't tell you how excited I am for the holidays.

Is setting up the tree this weekend too early?

Anyway want to go inside and tour the beautiful above home located in sunny L.A.......here we go starting in the entrance.

Speaking of a cool, clean & calm home...sometimes not a one of those three qualities exists in my home.  Somebody was asking how I managed my home and I sort of laughed because this is how I manage sometimes...

Want to see?

Imagine 5 kids getting into everything as my wheels just spin in place, trying to problem solve for all of these chitlings who must know we are trying to get out of the house in a timely fashion.  It's past time time of even making it to our destination on time but nonetheless somebody feels the need and even insists on going back to fetch an old zoo hat that is clearly too small and some mittens because 70 degrees is freezing.  I do what any desperate Mom would do and say, "That's it, everybody go line up and sit by the door and don't move until Momma is ready to go".  It sort of worked (at least for 4 of them...the 5th is always attached to my pant leg).  Pls. observe.

I know exactly how you feel about wanting warmth around the holidays, and then when spring starts to change it up. I think thats why I can never commit to decorating my house. Love to see all that you are up to.

If I ever got all of the cool, clean and calm home, it wouldn't be home at all...chaos and clutter rule my life right now and I wouldn't have it any other way.

P.S. it isn't too early to set up your tree...i keep whispering to Mike to get ours out, but nothing is happening

I have NEVER had to go back into the house and fetch stuff. NOT!

It's always a tape measure or a purse or a penny or a dino or...............

Then you have to keep up with all that stuff. Because if they lose it, guess who's going back to frantically search for it?

Love the minimal house. I was just picturing how my kids would look on that settee.......

We are ready for the holidays here too. My goal is to enjoy it to the max. But I want to celebrate Thanksgiving first. Hard to do when everyone has out Christmas items.

We have so much to be thankful for.

Peace,
Shannon in Austin

I to love the Holiday decor! I'm doing a seperate tree for the girls this year & I can't wait!
I do love taking it all down though. It's so refreshing to have the "clutter" gone & a clean slate.
I saw you mention to Sherry that you must get together...ME TOO! Call me!

Cool, clean, and calm - add contemporary and that's my style all the way! I love the photos! Of course crazy, chaotic, and cluttered are probably more my reality...

I love the dining room chairs. Can I please have that house?

That "House" is elegant and beautiful, if sparse. Your "Home" is no doubt, much more full and cozy! I love the kiddos lined up and ready to go! Just love it!

That's pretty funny yet amazing that they stayed by the door. Or was that just for the picture? :)

Annie...the funny thing is, they really did stay by the door so that is why I took the picture,

Your kids are so cute sitting by the door with all their smiles. I can't believe how big they are getting. Happy Veteran's Day! LOVE THE PICTURES OF THE BEAUTIFUL HOME TOO!

Thank you for sharing such beauty as is in that house.

You do not get much of the calm part in your home, do you?

Love the photo of 4 of 5 by the door.

Have a great day.

LOVE the house, it made me smile.

I can only dream that one day my wild boys would patiently wait by the door. We're always late because my 2 year old knows how to take his clothes off and REALLY likes doing so every time he's not being watched. :-)
