Just 45 minutes outside Cape Town exists a place and hotel that I dream about when I want to get away from it all. Let me just break it down..large gardens that produce every imaginable herb, fruit and vegetable where their emphasis is on good, simple, juicy and tasty food - straight from the garden to the table. Are you with me on this one? Seriously just look at that food and those accommodations...so clean and beautiful looking.

ReplyDeleteThis farm is about 15 mins from my house, and it belongs to my former big boss, South Africa's big media magnate. His wife did the interior for the restaurant and the guest house and it's really breathtakingly beautiful. Thanks for posting! Maryke
ReplyDeleteoh, interesting trivia - the style of architecture is called Cape Dutch and it's unique to the Cape Winelands. When the Dutch colonised the Cape in the 1600s, they brought with them the gables of Amsterdam canal houses. Only, they couldn't believe the space they now had available, so they schlepped wings on both sides of the gable, creating this style. Historically they were built from clay bricks and chalked to be white, with thatched roofs, and yellowwood woodwork throughout the house, with walls as thick as your arm. I really want one...
