It worked, it really worked.
If anybody has had the thought rolling around in their head,
"Hmmm, I sure would like to make my own yogurt today", then I would say
just do it.
It was rather easy & I liked how I had control of what & how to sweeten
it with.
I gave the kids 2 options of either using honey or pure maple syrup.
Honey it was, with a bit of vanilla and fresh strawberries.
Anybody else have any tips on making their own yogurt?
P.S. - The above yogurt maker is really old and was given to me from the MIL.
ooh Christina you are a Goddess :) and my idol, looks so easy, I wonder if I can find this yogurt machine here in the UK, I'll have to amazon it....
ReplyDeleteI was just talking with my husband the other day about wanting to learn to make yogurt. I saw a recipe for vanilla yogurt and they used a vanilla paste that they said make it deliciously vanilla.
ReplyDeleteI was contemplating on purchasing a maker or trying it in the crock pot.
Too bad we're not neighbors....
Amazing! You really are the best mom. How cool home made yogurt!
ReplyDeleteLove that! Only because I love yogurt and it is one of the few things my daughter loves to eat, but it has SO MUCH SUGAR! Most kinds....at least. Some have as much as a whole can of soda and of course she doesn't like the kiddie yogurts which have less sugar, but are often much smaller too. I would love to try this:) Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteoh my god. I have the EXACT SAME one. My mom gave it to me. WOOOOW. What recipe did you use????
ReplyDeleteI would have never even thought to do this- but you are right, then you know what actually goes into it. I'll have to try it one day!
ReplyDeleteI could get into making my own yogurt - but I don't have a yogurt maker. I'll have to look out for one at the thrift store. You make it look rather simple - what an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteFarihah - I just added honey and a little vanilla extract to the plain yogurt that I made...it was tasty.
ReplyDeletehomemade yogurt? your kids have no idea how good they have it!
ReplyDeletethank you for your sweet email and i apologize for not responding earlier — we're stuck in greece because of the volcanic eruption in iceland believe it or not! i hope you had a more relaxing weekend than we did :)
you are so good.
ReplyDeleteSaw you could make your own yogurt in a crockpot here. . http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/10/you-can-make-yogurt-in-your-crockpot.html
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome..i have often thought about buying 2 milk goats from the monastery in Safford, and make my own cheese, from that..you are inspiring me to do so!
ReplyDeletesounds fab! i'd love to make my own yogurt and add the fruit i'd like. wonder where you can get a yogurt maker from??
ReplyDeleteWho cares that it's old, as long as it works. Looks like the result was really yummy and fun to have the kids participate in the making of it. Have you tried Denmark yogurt? It's really popular in Korea...kind of like Greek style...yum!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that you have that machine. Growing up my mom made us yogurt allll of the time with a machine and those little glass cups just like yours! Thank you for bringing me back, I must see if she still has hers tucked away somewhere.
ReplyDeletei make homemade yogurt every week!
ReplyDeletesoooo yummy!
my husband has lyme disease and cannot have sugar but NEEDS those probiotics- it is CRAZY how much sugar is in even plain yogurt!
he can have fruit, though so i buy a bag of frozen organic mango chunks, but them in a pot over med heat with a bunch of water and just cook it down until it is total goo- you have to stir every so often and just keep adding water until it is gooey enough... then i add a heading spoonful in the bottom of every jar.
yum yum yum!
