{Inspiration for refreshing a bedroom on a budget}

As it stands right now my room is pretty traditional looking. It has looked the same for the last 8 years and I am ready to make some changes. I would love to add some modern pieces to freshen up the space. Of course it will have to be done on a budget which means I will have to work with what I already have...which translates to we are working around browns (which does not rank as my favorite color but will fit nicely into a modern nature inspired space). What I can do though is add a reasonably priced rug, paint, add new pillow and reupholster a small bench with a fun print fabric. What I really would love is a new bed but as it stands right now the one that I want is not in the budget.

So far I have acquired a couple of unique pieces from the thrift store that has helped to jump start the refresher {refer to large shell and coral mirror, brass sculptural lamp and the above brass chair with the ovals.

Things I have my eye on:

2 marbelized pilows from here (not cheap but pack a big punch for the space and willing to save the money on other items).

Inexpensive indoor/outdoor rugs from here and here (durable and will work great until the day comes for an investment rug).

Window treatments (perhaps a DIY).

A couple of side tables from Craiglist.

I will keep you all posted.

P.S. - Husband dragged home the above mirror a few days ago and surprised me (sort of). It came from a thrift store in Sun City and the same one can be found here for much much more...like $2700 more (not that one can gage the value of something from 1st Dibs but I still love it when that happens.

Hi there! Just as I was about to get really frustrated with Photobucket, I created a Flikr account to show them...but within 5 minutes of doing that Photobucket was all magic again. ...just like David Collins..magic.

I am paying special attention to his tie dyed window treatments. He also is all about ombre drapes as well..just follow the links below and you will see what I mean.

How have you all been?

I'll be back.

xx

Considering one of these little stripey numbers.

A while back I posted about Sabrina Linn's space. I had a few people inquire about the hardware on the bathroom cabinet. It is hard to tell from the picture but is the hardware raised or is it just on there strictly for design purposes.

I've had a hard time sourcing that darn hardware but did come across the above hardware from Lee Valley and had the thought to saw off the center parts of the hardware pictured as W or X until there were 2 separate parts. Anyone out there know anything about where to purchase the bathroom cabinet hardware pictured in Sabrina's bathroom?

Happy weekend!

I am a proud owner of a new 72" Drexel dining table from the 70s that I acquired as another project (you know because it was $25 and I REALLY needed another project). Thank goodness I had my Uncle's truck to go and fetch it with because I probably would've had to opt for an around the town Uhaul. Everything was good because I had great company....a cute little boy with an awesome red hat that he would not take off and my treasured Mom. It was a little windy today so everywhere we went he got such comments as, "That hat is going to help you take off and fly away in this wind". I actually bought the table Wednesday on a fun trip with a friend I met through blogging (Hi Kellie) who is a decorator and has a really great eye. Always nice to find those that share some of the same thoughts that come out of my brain...which may also be known as being on the same wavelength. If I didn't find those sort of people every once in a while I might start to think I was a little too odd for my breeches (or was that britches), you know?

Well I hope to be back with a nice bonus weekend post so come back and say hi if you would like.

Happy weekend!

P.S. - I am loving my new citrus print.

Just an admirer of the above textiles..
In fact I have a particular regard for them.

They are doing something to my heart.

I think a white bathing suit would look great to go and soak up the rays at the Soho Beach House in Miami?

Oh and the decor isn't too shabby either. I 'd stay there. Something about many of the floors in the spaces are making me feel inspired. I just love the feel of this hotel. What do you like about the spaces?

I had such a great response to the home in Croatia that I decided to post a few more pictures from Rees Roberts + Partners. I've noticed that not a lot of pattern is used in their design. I find these spaces very sophisticated.

To see more of their work go here.

I love how Julia bought an antique side table and customized it to be her own. She had the piece covered with mirror and at the base used reflective paper instead or mirror so that it would not reflect the wood underneath. I don't think I realized the prospects of reflective paper until now.

Have you ever used it for household projects?

This week I resolve to break free from any of those partial torture camp syndrome symptons I have been experiencing. Seriously at times I liken motherhood to being captured and having somebody tap my forehead incessantly for a really long time before I would like to burst due to some intensity issues. Good thing I know what it feels like to have all of the satisfying feelings that come from being a Mom to get me through. I am sure that being a Mom is one of my greatest opportunities. After all my kids have already helped me to learn a few lessons.....So here's to feeling life's purpose from every fiber of the being this week and feeling great joy while doing it.

Speaking of joy..

Guess where the make-up sessions of joy are held?
Nana & Baca's house.

My parents have been working very hard at creating a play space in their backyard. The awesome treehouse is almost done. Hooray for all of the fun prospects their backyard will bring.
